Over the past year, our work in Southampton has continued to grow. We have patrols at different times of the day and night now, and we have started a new patrol area on the east of the city. There is such joy in going into the heart of the city and suburbs and showing God's love to our communities through caring for others. Our work with the homeless has grown, particularly through our daytime patrols, and at weekends we are ever present around the night-time venues for those in difficulty and vulnerable. In the last 5 years, we have stopped predatory behaviour at night 335 times, ensuring the person’s safety. With every patrol we thank God for continually putting us in the right place at the right time, to be there for those who need us most. Through attending to people's needs we watch God move and touch people's hearts which makes patrolling all the more exciting. We are finding too, that so many people, particularly the young, are curious about our Christian faith and want to find out more. As a result of our continuing expansion, we are looking to recruit Street Pastors and Prayer Pastors for existing and new patrols. We would greatly appreciate it if you could share this news with your congregation to see if they might be interested in coming on an observation with a patrol, just to take a look, finding out more and consider if it is for them.
Southampton Street Pastors is made up of 156 Christians from 62 Churches in the city and the surrounding suburbs. Volunteers are Christians who find being a Street Pastor allows them to safely take their faith out on the streets, and to take their church out of the building, directly reaching and caring for the lost and needy. Every patrol is upheld in prayer by dedicated Prayer Pastors, who receive regular update calls throughout the patrol of how God is working through their prayers. Prayer Pastors are welcome to pray from home. We have 4 types of patrol: night-time, afternoon city centre, afternoon community patrols in 2 areas, a Portwood evening community patrol and a second evening patrol commencing in the east of the city. We are excited to announce that the next round of training starts - Friday evening, 22nd March 2024 (see flyers below for all the training dates).
If anyone is interested in finding out more just get in contact with us on 023 8033 3387 or by email southampton@streetpastors.org.uk, and we will be happy to help.
